I would like to start this letter off by telling all that I officially hate Mexican holiday festivities. I guess I had forgotten that Christmas for normal people is one or two days, but for Mexico, it is an eternity. December 12th is the sweet virgin Guadalupe's birthday, which of course needs to be celebrated the 11th and 12th of December. Christmas follows on the 24th and 25th. And the New Years' fiestas (probably the biggest of them all) start the 30th and end the following Monday! I mean, if the holiday is on Thursday, there is no point in working Friday or Saturday. Let's just wait until Monday. To top it off, the wise men will be bringing goodies to the children on Wednesday, so the parties have to start today and end next Monday. Can you feel my hatred?
Anyhow, it should all end soon so that I can have a sweet last thirteen weeks of mission life.
Well, I have a new companion. The normal transfers are in one more week, but a few elders went home early, so it shook things up a bit and Elder Allen left today. Elder Soriano is my new comp. He has like fourteen months in the mission. He is de Guadalajara. He is a nice guy, but I can't really understand him. He talks really fast, and even the Mexicans tell him to slow down. So I will probably come home with a Soriano accent.
We had a lady come to church by herself yesterday. She is a nice little old lady. Her niece from Michoacan brought her and she loved it. She told us that she has a bunch of people that live in her house that want to go to church, and that they have always been interested in learning more about our church. I hope this is the family of eighteen I have always dreamed of. Her name is Esperanza, by the way. "Hope" ~ if you will.
Well, our zone is doing well. We went from one of the worst to the best as of recent weeks, so we hope to continue to lead the way.
I was sad to hear about Hermana Wagner. The members that have a bunch of time in the church all know the Wagners and talk about them like they are royalty. I like to name drop and I often tell them that I am their cousin. But she is having a good time with Kenyon and I'm sure the Lord is using them to do great works right now.
Well, this week should be a little better. I just hope those wise men come and go really quick so that the work will pick up. I love you all and am glad everyone is doing well.
Love,
Drew
3 friend{s} had something to say:
Dear Drew,
Thank you for the 1st Drewski laugh of the year!!! Of course your Zone went from first to last, duh! 13 weeks and counting, I can't believe it.
I think I want to move to Mexico. I like loonnnng holidays. Just kidding.
Elder Cozzens has the same complaint, mostly about the loud 'bombs' popping off all night long in celebration of any and all holidays. Maybe there will be real wise men who find our good missionaries and seek the truth they offer. Yay missionaries!
I've never heard of the Wise Men tradition, but I'm so glad I got to hear about it from funny, funny Drew!
He's so right about Bro & Sis (Hermana) Wagner. Good thoughts,
Elder!
